Rivera shows Tavarez The Money $$ El Diario NY

POR: Roberto Pérez | 07/25/2012 | El Diario

With his latest campaign filing, state senator Gustavo Rivera has sent a clear message to his opponent Manny Tavarez. Rivera reported having raised $ 100.414 and has a balance of $ 126.500. His opponent has yet to file, which led a Democratic source supporting Rivera to say that Tavarez is following in the footsteps of disgraced politicians like Espada, who ignored campaign finance laws among others. Voters rejected this kind of corruption and elected Gustavo two years ago and they will again.

Tavarez has apparently aligned himself with an insurgent group led by Richard Soto, who is running against Assemblyman Nelson Castro.

I'm hearing that Hector Ramirez, who has strong ties with the Democratic Party in the Bronx, has broken from their ranks and has joined the insurgent group. I contacted Tavarez and Ramirez, to find out what was going on. Ramirez said that he is with the party, but only supports candidates who share his values and principles and if they don't, then he wont support them, machine be damned.

Tavarez did not answer. It will be interesting to see if Congressman Rangel's allies
deliver for Tavarez, after all he did for the reelection of veteran legislator.

The Linares family is currently winning the money race against state senator Adriano Espaillat and his ally Assembly candidate Gabriela Rosa. Linares has $ 69.292 on hand, while Espaillat has $ 27.469. Now, lets see if Bloomberg delivers the $ 100,000 he promised Linares.

Mayra Linares, meanwhile, has $ 20.304. and her opponent Gabriela Rosa has $ 3.450.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. seems to be leaning closer and closer to running for Public Advocate. His spokesman John Desio confirmed that he is "seriously considering it". Diaz Jr. reported having raised $ 285.427, and has a total of $ 886.865, according to the campaign finance board.

There's a Latina running for state assembly in the 25th AD. Nily Rozic who was, born in Jerusalem, of Argentine parents and who is fluent in Spanish, is facing Jerry Iannece who the Queens Democratic Party, supports for this position, the 25th AD is 12.12% Hispanic. Rozic has received the endorsement of the Working Families Party.

Tavarez no respondió.

Nydia Vs. Vito The Saga Continues El Diario NY

Roberto Perez | 07/18/2012 | El Diario

The political war between Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, the Dilan's and Brooklyn Boss, Assemblyman Vito Lopez, continues.

The Dilan's-State Senator Martin Dilan, Councilman Erik Dilan and there protege, Assemblyman Rafael Espinal, are preparing to do battle with a list of candidates who many suspect are being supported by Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez in retaliation for having been challenged by the Brooklyn machine and the Dilan's in the primaries.

One Dilan family member has decided to stay out of this race and that is the wife of Erik Dilan, Janitza Luna, who has decided not to run for reelection for the position of district leader which she currently occupies. Instead, the Dilan's are supporting Paula Melendez as her replacement, she will fight Darma Diaz for the position.

Councilman Erik Dilan is being challenged by Cyril Joseph for his District Leader post while Assemblyman Rafael Espinal is being challenged by John Rodriguez.

Also, State Senator Martin Dilan will face Jason Otano, who many say was neutral when he worked for Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, but joined forces with Velazquez when, Vito Lopez's went after her. Otano has received campaign contributions from various enemies of Lopez, which include Councilwoman Diana Reyna, who gave $ 250 her chief of staff Antonio Reynoso, who will eventually have to fight the Lopez forces for the Council seat - donated $ 100. Congresswoman Velázquez contributed $ 2,000 her chief of staff, Evelyn Cruz, chipped in $ 100.

I asked State Senator Martin Dilan his thoughts on the upcoming battle. "Congresswoman Velazquez thinks she is the new boss in Brooklyn, adding that they take all opponents seriously, and they are working hard and are ready for the challenges they face."

Moreover, the political machine of Queens added a Latino to their ranks. In the 34th AD, Cuban Jorge Fanjul, who works for Comptroller John Liu, was elected with the blessing of the party and with no opposition to the office of Democratic District Leader. After being accused by the New York Times of resembling Queens in the 1950s due to its lack of diversity, the party has apparently read between the lines and has begun to support young Hispanics such as Fanjul for party positions. The 34th AD is 58% Latino. Now let's see if the party continues its practice of promoting minority groups by supporting State Senator Jose Peralta to be the first Latino elected Queens Borough President.

Nydia vs. Vito, la guerra sigue -

Roberto Perez | 07/18/2012 | El Diario

MirRam to Decide between Espaillat & Linares El Diario NY

Roberto Perez | 07/11/2012 | El Diario

Now that the winner in CD 13 has been decided, the battle between Assemblyman Guillermo Linares and State Senator Adriano Espaillat begins. Something I find interesting in this political chess game is knowing who will get the powerful political consulting group MirRam in their corner. They advised Espaillat, in his battle with Congressman Rangel. But it just so happens that Luis Miranda, a partner at the firm, has a very strong bond with Linares going back years.

The question is, if MirRam will stay with Espaillat, who is the favorite to be the Congressman in CD 13 in two years, or will friendship triumph over business and the MirRam Group will work to elect father Guillermo to the Senate and daughter Mayra to the Assembly?.

According to my sources, the Mirram Group will go with Linares and not Espaillat in this battle. But for Linares to overthrow Espaillat he has to make sure that he has the war chest to do it.

Linares has strong ties to Mayor Bloomberg and Mirram partner and former Bronx Democratic Party Boss Roberto Ramirez consults for and has a strong relationship with the IDC and state Sen. Jeff Klein, who is a great fundraiser.

Moreover, the Manhattan Democratic Party who is at war with Espaillat after the battle with Charles Rangel, owes Linares its support. County leader, Assemblyman Keith Wright , knows that unless he makes peace with Espaillat, who is now a very formidable threat to the organization, he must help Linares with fundraising and institutional support, in order to pay back Espaillat for crossing Rangel.

On the other hand, a source informed me that the Espaillat campaign was tipped off by an elected official of the meeting between Keith Wright and the Board of Elections Tim Gay, a few days before the election, which resulted in much of accusations against the Board by the senator's campaign. When the numbers do not add up you can not blame anyone for thinking that where there's smoke there's fire.

Bronx Assemblyman Nelson Castro has decided to stay neutral in the fight between Linares and Espaillat.

Asesores de Espaillat podrían irse con Linares -

Roberto Perez | 07/11/2012 | El Diario

In Northern Manhattan Peace is not a remote possibility El Diario NY

Roberto Perez | 07/04/2012 | El Diario

When the outcome in the 13th CD is decided, whatever the result, the only certainty is that politics makes strange bedfellows. So do not be surprised if all the characters now fighting and shouting, in the future kiss and embrace.

For example, if State Senator Adriano Espaillat is declared the loser against Congressman Rangel and decides to run again for his seat in the State Senate, District Leader Mark Levine , who confronted him in 2010 and is now his ally, could be the one which comes out ahead in an election that could include Assemblyman Guillermo Linares.

Hypothetically, Linares and Espaillat would split the Latino vote and Levine could secure the non-Hispanic vote. When Levine ran against Espaillat in 2010 he did very well in white-majority areas like the Upper West Side and Riverdale. Now that the district goes down to 25th Street this only improves his chances.

A peace treaty is not a remote possibility, remember that Linares and Espaillat put aside their differences in 2010, when they supported each other in their respective races and Espaillat backed Linares in 2002 when he faced the then State Senator Eric Schneiderman.

Levine, on the other hand, is bound to Espaillat, now that he 'burned' his former allies, Assemblyman Denny Farrell and Councilman Robert Jackson - by giving his support to Espaillat instead of Rangel. Therefore, if he runs for the council, he will need the support of Espaillat in an area with a lot of Dominicans, in which he could possibly face a number of Dominican candidates such as District Leader Maria Luna , an ex ally of Espaillat who was once his favorite for the seat until she supported Rangel. Corey Ortega from the office of Assemblyman Keith Wright, Socrates Solano from the office of Congressman Rangel and District Leader Marisol Alcantara, who can also make a claim for Espaillat's support.

My sources tell me that the supporters of Congressman Rangel are very happy with the work that Manny Tavarez did on his behalf, and plan to return the favor in his race against state Sen. Gustavo Rivera .

Un tratado de paz no es remoto -

Un tratado de paz no es remoto -

Roberto Perez | 07/04/2012 | El Diario
