I had the opportunity to interview Attorney Juan Cartagena of the Community Services Society. Topics of discussion were immigration reform, voter participation within the Latino community, and Latinos and the media. Nelson Denis on THE PEREZ NOTES

I had the opportunity to interview Attorney Nelson Denis, who is running for New York State Assembly in the 72ND district. The seat is currently held by Assembly member Adriano Espaillat. We discussed housing, education, transportation, and the budget deficit, and the ways in which Mr. Denis plans to deal with the issues facing the district, and the state, if he is elected to the New York state assembly.

Jerry Skurnik on THE PEREZ NOTES

I had the opportunity to interview Consultant Jerry Skurnik, of the voter contact firm Prime NY. Topics of the discussion were, the primaries in Pennsylvania and Kentucky, the Obama administration, the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the Supreme court, and State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's campaign for Governor. Jimmy Van Bramer on THE PEREZ NOTES

I had the opportunity to interview Council member Jimmy Van Bramer. Among the many topics we discussed were, Charter schools, libraries, the Progressive caucus, paid sick days, the living wage, and affordable housing. We also discussed, the letter he wrote to the President of Fresh Direct, in support of the organizing efforts of the employees. Another topic of the discussion were the day laborer's in Hart park in Woodside, Queens, and his effort's to reach a compromise between the parties involved in the situation.

Helen Sears on THE PEREZ NOTES

I had the opportunity to interview District Leader Helen Sears. We discussed her record as a district leader, since she is a facing an opponent for her seat. We also discussed her time as a member of the New York City council, her vote on the Kings bridge armory project, her discussions with the Republican party during the special election for the State Senate seat in the 13Th district, and her views on the problems facing the city, and the state.

Howard Graubard on THE PEREZ NOTES

I had the opportunity to interview, Attorney Howard Graubard aka "Gatemouth" of the political blog Room 8. We discussed Political blogs, Brooklyn politics, and some of the upcoming races in the borough. The fiscal crisis that the state is facing, and the Governor's decision to furlough State employees, the budget negotiations. Eliot Spitzer and his political future, and Gatemouths time as an Attorney for the State Senate minority, under the leadership of former State Senator Marty Connor.

Stuart Osnow on THE PEREZ NOTES

I had the opportunity to interview Consultant Stuart Osnow of the firm Prime New York. We discussed the work that Prime NY does, in providing candidates for elective office, with the data that they need in order to run an effective campaign.We discussed new technologies like texting, and how that can be used as a tool to reach potential voters. Another topic of discussion was the science of getting elected, and what that entails.

Anthony Miranda on THE PEREZ NOTES

I had the opportunity to interview Anthony Miranda, who is the President of the National Latino Officers Association. Anthony is running for New York State Assembly in the 35Th District. The seat is currently held by Assembly member Jeff Aubry. We discussed his reasons for running for the seat, and how he plans to help solve the problems of the state.

I had the opportunity to interview New York Times Reporter Fernanda Santos. We discussed her article on the business owners of Willets Point, and their fight to stop the development.The residents of Broad Channel, and some of the issues they are facing, and her story on the immigrant from Guatemala that was murdered. Jessica Ramos on THE PEREZ NOTES

I had the opportunity to interview Jessica Ramos, who is running for District Leader in the 34th Assembly District Part A. We discussed her candidacy, and the reasons why she is running for office. The current female District Leader for that Assembly District, is former Councilwoman Helen Sears.
